TOKAI UNIVERSITY Researchers Guide 2020

Topics1 :The world of VLSI design is not open now. We are trying to make an open source methodology for aordable VLSI making. The NDA free cell library, symbolic dimension layout, symbolic to physical layout conversion are the key technology for this method. We are trying to ll the missing libraries and tools to make VLSI design world open. Topics2 :Our research for UML/SysML to hardware compiler will change the design philosophy to object oriented one.Topics3 :We made a curricula for IoT to children. In 2018 and 2019, we made courses for 20 children with 40 hours lectures/laboratories.ResearchAreasComplex systemsKeyword■Computer Architecture■LSI Design Methodology■EDA software■Hardware Modeling■IOT Education for ChildrenRelatedresearchSDGOpen source VLSI design methodologyProfessorNaohiko ShimizuUndergraduate School of Information and Telecommunication EngineeringDepartment of Embedded TechnologyTowards the next generation of IoT and AI, she challenges to provide software architecture, design, programming, and education. From 1 April to 20 September 2020, she belonged to Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) Germany as a guest professor and has worked with Prof. Dr.Robert Hirschfeld. HPI is known as a top design school in Europe. Prof. Dr. Hirschfeld is famous in programming language and software architecture worldwide. She has organised the Asia Pacic Conference on Robot IoT System Development and Platform (APRIS) since 2018. And also, she has provided Global Project-Based Learning using robots for embedded system development in this conference.ResearchAreasInformaticsKeyword■Software Engineering■IoT■Embedded system■Programming■Design ThinkingRelatedresearchSDGSoftware Architecture and Design in IoT and AI EraProfessorHarumi WatanabeUndergraduate School of Information and Telecommunication EngineeringDepartment of Embedded TechnologyUndergraduate School of Information and Telecommunication EngineeringDepartment of Embedded TechnologyTo realize an intelligent robot system, it is required to process large amounts of data input from complex and dierent kinds of sensors in a short time. FPGA is expected to improve the processing performance of robots due to better performance per power consumption than high-performance CPU, but it has lower development productivity than software. My research aims to reduce the complexity of the development of intelligent robots to introduce FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) by making it a component that can be accessed by software. ROS-compliant FPGA component is one of my proposals to promote the introduction of FPGA into the robot system.ResearchAreasInformaticsKeyword■FPGA■Robot■Component■DesignRelatedresearchSDGComponent-based FPGA Development for Intelligent RoboticsAssociate ProfessorTakeshi Ohkawa91
